"Painting is my personal connection to joy in life, my expression of and response to color, form light and atmosphere in the world around all of us. I search for and feel connected to the Universal Truth each time I spend hours letting pallette, brush and canvas say what words cannot."

Oil Painting En Plein Air

An honest student of the subtleties of light, Kay paints the sort of beauty and visual commentary that is seen by a quiet eye. In face of the wordless enormity of landscapes, her aim is to interpret that which makes it beautiful, in less noticeable ways than iconic structure. She endeavors to tell the story not of the mountain, but of the air above 6,000 feet; not of a river, but the rare, fresh mossy fragrance of a spring creek when trout begin to rise, and not of the elephant, but the bright respite from heat that is morning's gift to his walk.
In her mind, the greatest grace of the human experience is to recognize the splendid subtleties of such greater things. So, as the artist's eternal endeavor commands, she stands in their midst and endeavors with brushes and oils
... to share them.

"Expecting The Day"

A very foggy and smoky early morning in Jackson Hole. It was late in the fall and there was no reason that I knew of for the haze that morning, but the sun was diffusing into the pinks and then colors of the atmosphere and offered glimpse of morning through the cottonwoods. I'm forever drawn to the shape and a love of cottonwoods and strength of light with atmosphere. The combination of the two made that morning truly stand out from the rest.

Old Road Bed

This old Texas road bed has a history fallen into quieter times.
Overgrown now, the early summer light light falls through the live oaks there and tells stories.  It highlights and emphasizes the tall grasses and wind and the shady spot watching the beautiful light and bigger story
of the Texas hill country beyond

Quiet Backwater

Painted in the meadows in front of a house belonging to an old friend, this quiet cutthroat spawning bed is a favorite bend of Fish Creek, north of Wilson Wyoming.  This piece is the  story of early fall when the air is a little smoky and changing, the grasses have already dried, and a family of ducks, all nearly adults by then,  paddling beyond the bend interrupting my love of stories reflected in slow moving water.
