Oil Painting Snow Fed Lake

Snow Fed Lake
There is a hike in Grand Teton National park that takes you to the crystal shores of Phelps Lake, tucked in the elbow of Death Canyon, with Static Peak and Prospector's Mountain rising like sentinels on either side of it.   For a generation, access to this magical part of the lake belonged exclusively to the Rockefeller family who owned one of the last ranch inholdings there.  One of life's greatest gifts is to share what is beautiful with those whom we love most - this was painted on a late summer afternoon after my eldest Granddaughter had packed my easel up the trail, and we both marveled at the water, clear as gin, making vivid the granite stones shining and sloping away from the shore into the study of green.  An afternoon with her, while describing such a vision in paint remains among my greatest days.
